Meeting in the Market Place at 19.30 this is your opportunity to have a walk around our hometown. With a sunset time of 21.25 there will be ample time to capture a wide selection of images…

Meeting at 19.30 outside The Swan Public House in Bibury this evening will be spent capturing some ‘iconic’ images. Sunset is due for 21.30 so there will be plenty of time to capture this gem of a village in the heart of the Cotswold’s.

Meeting at 19.30 in Northleach Market Square you’ll have a chance to explore this delightful town.

Meeting at the Station Road Car Park at 19.30 this evening will provide a further opportunity to capture some ‘iconic’ Cotswold images. Described as ‘The Venice of the Cotswold’s’ Bourton on the Water is one of the most recognisable villages in the area. Can you capture the beauty of the village from a different angle…?

August 31st will see the inaugural running of the Via Roma Cirencester Nocturne, in association with Cotswold District Council and Cirencester Town Council. There will be 4 cycle races throughout the evening culminating in the prestigious elite race which will take place under floodlights as dusk sets in. More information can be found HERE.

The curtain call for 2015-16 where we will be celebrating the success of the season with the presentation of club awards and completing the club AGM.

August 29 will see the 2nd running of the Via Roma Cirencester Twilight Town Centre Races, in association with Cotswold District Council and Cirencester Town Council.

A series of 4 races will take place throughout the evening with a Youth Race, a National B support race and a Corporate Relay event, culminating in the prestigious Elite Race which will take place under floodlights as dusk settles.

The Nation’s best racers will compete through the closed roads of the Ancient Roman Town Centre of Cirencester to finish in the Market Place outside of the Church of St. John the Baptist, which dates back to the 12th Century.

Race Schedule:

• 18:00 Under 16 & Under 14 racers: 30 Minutes.
• 19:00 2nd, 3rd & 4th Category racers: 40 Minutes.
• 20:00 Corporate Relay, teams of 5 racers: 30 Minutes.
• 21:00 Elite Race: 1 hour.

Richard Olpin will present an evening entitled “Its not all Glamour”.

Whilst many people know Richard for his glamour and art nude images, his
personal photographic journey encompasses many styles and topics, you’ll be
surprised to see his favourite images often don’t involve people at all! In
his talk he’ll discuss his photographic journey from early darkroom
experiments as a child, through to teaching in stunning foreign locations
and cover shoots for international magazines.

He will keep the glamour / art nude stuff to a very small selection of tasteful
images, certainly nothing which should cause offence.

For the summer programme we will meet on Sundays so we can venture a little further and have more time for capturing images, getting together for a bite to eat or an evening drink after the sun has dropped below the horizon (hopefully we will get some sun!).

Due to the school holidays, we will stay a little more local for the first meet.

At 18:00 hrs, meet at Gloucester docks to capture the early evening sun around the warehouses, reflections in the water and windows and capture people wandering around and eating out.

For those that are attending this Sunday (Fathers day) – Meet outside the big reflective dome at 2pm and have a wander around Bristol harbour front capturing the hustle and bustle of the old docks.

Stay longer for a bite to eat if you wish and a drink or two and then capture the evening sun as the harbour lights come on.

Lift share if possible to save on parking charges and fuel costs!

An all day event wandering around the Cotswold Wildlife park and gardens capturing great images of the animals and plants. Hopefully there should be something for everyone.

Get out your long lenses (if you haven’t got one, I am sure someone may have one that you can borrow) to isolate the subject against the background, use a large aperture to throw those backgrounds out of focus!

Gloucester hosts the “Art in the City” event for 2017.

Capture candid street photography as Gloucester hosts different events across the city centre with Artistic demonstrations, live painting and street art!

Meet at the Second Severn crossing late Sunday afternoon for a Walk along the Severn Estuary. Get some shots (hopefully the tides will be right) on the North side of the bridge as the sun sets at 21:01

Meet in Clevedon from mid- afternoon onwards for some great shots along the sea front, in and around the cafes and amusement arcades. Grab and early evening snack / meal  and a drink and then walk along to the pier as the sun lines up exactly with it for sunset at 20:37 hrs.

Lift share to save on fuel costs if you can.

To give us a good start for the new season, Fotospeed will give us a talk on Screen and Printer calibration. Ideal for those that don’t understand the concept and a refresher to those that do. He will talk us through Fotospeed products and paper and the effects different papers have on a finished print.

For those that Print at home, this should give you all a good start for getting Prints into the monthly competitions!

Its Competition Night with our second competition of the year. The set subject for Competition B is “Movement” and “Open”. You are allowed to enter 1 x Print and 1 x Digital image per section (max. 4 images total). Remember to include a digital copy of each print you enter so all the entries can be seen on the big screen!

The former Cirencester Camera Club Member presents an evening entitled “Annual Perspective”, where Colin takes us through the process of taking a photo everyday for a whole year!

Entries for Competition C “The Decisive Moment” and “open” are due in this evening.

Part 3 covers making use of Manual Exposures, using a tripod and the RAW file format with some basic before and after RAW processing in Lightroom and Photoshop CS6 / CC if required.

As winter starts on the 21st December, let us see what is capable when renowned Robert Harvey presents “Winter Photography”

Ok, so its decided that tonight we will be out and about around the market place in Cirencester to get some Christmas shots and then afterwards into the Fleece for a warming pre-Christmas drink.

Tonight’s theme will be slightly different.

You are restricted to the Market place and Blackjack street (inc. the Swanyard) to get your shots which have to meet the criteria set (we will perhaps review them on the Christmas meal evening with a prize for the best? TBC).

The subjects are, Christmas Tree (s), Christmas Lights, Light Trails (long exposure), a Star (s), a Candle (s), Father Christmas, an Angel (s) and a Christmas reflection.

We will meet at 07:30 outside the Church (in the Market place) and have 1 hour to get taking photos. Remember your “Basics” lessons. As its night, manual mode will be ideal as you will be able to control the dark and light parts of the photo to get an even exposure balance (auto modes will struggle).

At 8:30, meet in the Fleece for a pre-Christmas drink and chat.

I along with some other experienced members will be on hand to help those that are struggling with some hands on help (be it getting the exposure right or getting a good composition).

Bring your tripod and remote release if you have one?

Hopefully after parts 1 – 3 of the basics course, you are all now set to go out and get some great shots!

For those that wish, we also have a possibility of a basic Photoshop night, where if (for those that have them) bring along your laptops, we can work through some basic photo editing together for some hands on experience.

Tonight we welcome an external judge to give a critique and scores for competition D, “Urban Landscape” and “Open”.

Its time to dust off your cameras and get snapping.

Following on from previous years where Kevin has demonstrated time lapse photography, tonight its over to you to do a short animation in teams of around 10 – 15 seconds (approx. 300 photos).

A short demonstration will be given and then its down to your imagination to see what you can come up with during the first half. We should be able to quickly assemble the photos on the laptop and have a look at the results in the second half!

Cameras and Tripod are a must.

Tonight Kevin and Richard continue there practical sessions on Portraiture photography.

Hopefully you will all now have gained some valuable information on lighting and posing etc.

Tonight we welcome an external judge for critique and scoring on our final fifth competition of the year “Water in all forms” and “Open”

Plan A Weather permitting. A practical night outdoors at the mop fair in Cirencester town centre. A chance to experiment with long exposure photography. John Spreadbury will give us a briefing, then we will head off into town. Plan B Table-top photography. You bring the food, flowers, objects etc for a fun night of in-house photography. Bring your cameras and tripod. Flash or other lighting would help for indoor work.

Competition B: submission. Coastline + Open.

Shaun Little will take us through how to take a better landscape image, including how composition and light can make or break an image.

Richard McLeery of Cheltenham Camera Club will introduce an AV presentation of a selection of this year’s successful entries in the Cheltenham International Salon of Photography. A chance to see an excellent range of images in the five secions of the Salon: Colour, Mono, Creative, Nature, Travel.

Competition B: Coastline + Open. An external judge will give their views on the submissions for Competition B.

Competition C submission: Letters & Numbers + Open

Rosemary Wilman, Hon. FRPS, AFIAP, BPE5*, APAGB will give a presentation of her work “The Way I See It”. Rosemary is a highly qualified and experienced photographer with a particular interest in travel and nature.

Our Chairman John Spreadbury will introduce a practical night on Long Exposures and Light Trails.

Table-top photography. You bring the Christmas-themed items and we provide the tables and expert help to photograph them. Bring your camera, tripod, etc.

Andy Beel, FRPS is a black & white specialist. His talk is entitled “5 Ways To Make Better Prints”. Practical hints and tips on ways to improve your colour and mono printing skills.

WCPF (DPIC) Image review. Comments and discussion on last year’s awarded DPIC images from the WCPF. Creative, Mono, Open and Nature. A light-hearted fun evening looking at the best images from the South West region.

[WCPF – Western Counties Photographic Federation; DPIC – Digital Projected Images Competition]

This was originally billed as a practical night but the weather forecast looks unsuitable for star photography. The replacement programme for the evening will feature presentations by Ben Jarvis (Star Trails) and David Wallis (aurora photography).

Post Christmas Camera Club Meal. Wash away those winter blues with a post-Christmas Camera Club get together at the Golden Farm Pub (Upper Churnside, Cirencester, GL7 1AR). Cost is £10 per head for a buffet meal. Please contact Paul Jones to confirm your attendance.

Competition D: Submission. Long Exposure + Open.

Sandie Cox, ARPS, DPAGB will give a talk entitled “How to Take Better Wildlife Pictures”. Sandie is a Nature/Wildlife and Travel photographer, lecturer, and judge based in Tetbury. She is an appointed judge for the Western Counties Photographic Federation and also judges national and international competitions.

Low key lighting, bottle and glass desktop photography. Richard will guide us through the process of producing professional 'product' images. Using equipment that is readily available to all Club photographers (e.g. just one light source) Richard will demonstrate the techniques used to light and post-process this type of image.

Competition D: Long Exposure + Open. A competition judge will give their views on the submissions for Competition D.  A great chance to see the best of other Cirencester Camera Club members’ own work!

Committee Members' Night. This is usually set up as a panel Q&A session, but we are open to extending the format. For example, by calling on the expertise of non-committee members and including mini-presentations/demonstrations on topics of interest. To give the night a structure so that we can get the best out of the evening, we thought it might be helpful if you would give us a "steer" in advance. In giving your feedback we have listed some questions (on a questionnaire handed out at the January 28th meeting) which will help us to structure both the Feb 18th evening and next year’s Club programme. If you could complete the form and hand it to Mike or Martyn, we can see how best to plan the evening. Feel free to raise anything you like. It's your Club.

1. Is there anything in particular which the Club could improve on or provide for the enjoyment of our weekly meetings?
2. Does the Club programme have the right balance in terms of competitions, practical nights (including demonstrations), speakers (internal and external) and "battles"? 
3. Are there topics which members would like to see covered which have not been in recent times? This might be addressed by an external speaker or Club member.
4. Are you interested in doing a Club presentation, perhaps with a colleague as a "double act"? If so, what would be the photo subject?
5. As there are sufficient Club members with extensive photographic experience, do you think a training night (perhaps in skill groups) is worth having?
6. Although the Club is not flushed with funds, is there any photo kit which the Club might invest in for Club use? (Note that some books have already been contributed to the Club on Photoshop etc which are available to borrow).

Competition E: submission. Transport + Open.

Battle at home against Tetbury. A competition judge will give their views on Cirencester and Tetbury’s images as we battle it out to see who can be this year’s victor.

An in-house photographic talk. The "Magic" of Photoshop by Shaun Little. The presentation will be based on "Masking" and work through various levels - what are masks, when to use masks, different types of masks etc.

Competition E: Transport + Open. A competition judge will give their views on the submissions for Competition E. A great chance to see the best of other Cirencester Camera Club members’ own work!

Winter project digitally projected images. Members bring up to 10 images taken at home or anywhere in the UK from over the winter period for in-house informal discussion. Subject – winter.

Richard Sudbury will give us a talk tonight on portraiture / still life photography either using flash/studio light or image retouching.

Knockout Print Night. It’s down to you to pick the winner in tonight’s no-holds barred competition. It’s one against one as we whittle down the prints to find the overall 2018-19 champion!

Hermon will give a talk on "Photo Opportunities in Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way". Hermon is an ex-President of the British Society of Gastroenterology. He is passionate about his photography and joined the RPS in 2009 and has been a crucial member of the Society’s Medical Awards Committee, serving as an external Committee member as the Royal College of Physicians’ representative. He is a member of the Travel group and gained an ARPS in Travel in June 2014.

Competition Night – Annual Competitions. A competition judge will give their views on the submissions for the Annual Competitions. A great chance to see the best of other Cirencester Camera Club members’ own work!

Overdosed on Chocolate? Time for some fresh air and getting those cameras out.

As mentioned at the last two meetings the main item on the Agenda for this meeting will be a presentation on the club history and arrangements for the forthcoming Exhibition.

Additionally it would be a good opportunity to deal with some of the items that get rushed at the AGM:

• Competition subjects – members to choose from selection.

• Summer programme. Should this be a Saturday rather than Monday evening?

• Next year’s programme.

• Do we need a project for weekly/monthly photographs?

• How much Photoshop/Lightroom? How is this best demonstrated?

Spring is here. Get those cameras out!

Wander over to the Abbey Park to get some evening photos (JPEG only), then back into the room for the second half to see what everyone has captured. Who got the best image of the night? Bring your camera and tripod.

It's AGM and trophy time. Raise your views at this years AGM, stand for the next season's Committee. Then it's over to the trophy and awards hand-outs, will it be you this year?

The event will be held at the Greyhound Pub, Ashton Road, Siddington, Cirencester, GL7 6HR. 

An exhibition celebrating 80 years of the Camera Club will be held at the Bingham Gallery, Market Place, Cirencester, GL7 2NZ.  The exhibition will run from Saturday 25th May to Friday 31st May and is open from 10am to 4pm every day. 

The exhibition will feature award-winning prints and digitally projected images from this year’s Club competitions, and will document key events in the history of the Club since its formation in 1939.

Mike and I had a useful recce for Monday night’s meet up for some practical photography. The location we have chosen is Barrow Wake, Birdlip not to be confused with nearby 
Crickley Hill. Coming from Cirencester, you turn left off the A417 towards Birdlip
(before the Air Balloon) and then, after about 200 metres turn right and into the car
park which is a little further along. Barrow Wake is administered by The Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust (check out their website) and affords great views of the Black Mountains, the Malvern Hill in the distance with Brockworth, the curves of the Brockworth Bypass, 
Gloucester, Robins Wood Hill and Crickley Hill in the near landscape. The weather looks
good, sun with cloud for interest and sunset is around 9.30. Parking is free (unlike 
Crickley Hill!) and it’s relatively flat at the viewpoints so no strenuous walking
required. We thought that if we aim to meet by 8.00pm in the Barrow Wake car park, those wishing to share travel can meet around our usual time of 7.30 in Cirencester. Bring yourCamera, tripod, lenses etc and if any of our more experienced members are coming it 
would be great for some advice on capturing the late day’s sun (here’s hoping). If we 
have time afterwards, a drink in the Air Balloon might be on the cards. Let us know if 
you areable to make it and look  forward to seeing you Monday night.

Part 2 - Photography basics refresher

for the Western Counties Photographic Federation (WCPF)
print competition 2018-2019

Tonight is the deadline for entries in the first of the season's
Club competitions. The set subject is 'Tools of the Trade'.

Summer project  - digitally projected images.

Members bring up to 10 images taken over the summer period for
inhouse informal discussion. Tell us about your images -
equipment used, settings, processing, subject matter etc.

Dave Tait will give a nature/wildlife audio visual presentation.

This is a 4-way battle with Swindon Photographic Society, Calne Camera Club,
and Wantage Camera Club on Thursday 26th September.
The battle will be held at The Western Community Centre, Somerset Rd, Rodbourne,
Swindon SN2 1NF with a kick off time of 19.30. 
Each club will have a total of 20 images submitted. Images are viewed and judged 
on the night by an independent judge who will then offer a critique on the image
and give it a score from 0 to 20. Each individual image score will then be added 
together to generate the overall club score. 
These battles are a great opportunity for members to see what standards are being
achieved by other clubs in our area as well as meet and chat with some of their
members.

The evening will be split between Colin Hoskins who will talk about iPhone photography and processing using Snapseed, and Ben Jarvis will tell us about his astro/night-time photography

Caron Steele, ARPS 

Caron studied Zoology at Oxford University and then went on to a career in banking and advertising. She moved to Worcestershire in 1992 to run a farm with her husband. They diversified the business and now run a
Conference Centre, Wedding Venue and small Business Park on the farm
estate whilst her husband manages the farm business.

Caron's love for wildlife has been rekindled by her passion for
photography. She spends many hours photographing the wildlife on her
farm and travels all over the world trying to capture the beauty of the
natural world.

A competition judge will give their views on the submissions for

October 29th(am) Street Photography Workshop lead by Adrian and
Damien in Cheltenham. Cost £35/head.

This workshop has been arranged as an optional follow-on from
Monday's presentation by Adrian Vince and Damien Demolder. 

It will held in Cheltenham and there is a charge of £35/head
for the morning session.

Chris Fairweather is a photojournalist and his talk will be

Well, it had to happen and Stu contacted me yesterday to say that he
is unwell, having picked up a bug in Namibia (sounds nasty) so he’s
reluctantly had to cancel his talk on Monday. We will reschedule him
when he’s fit again but I’m delighted and extremely grateful that Shaun
has offered to bring forward Part 2 of the talk he gave last year.
This time it’s Cornwall as the destination for his landscape photo
location talk which I’m sure will be as entertaining as Part 1.

We are going to run the “my modified image” event as mentioned before so if you can 
bring some (before and after) images along on a memory stick and be prepared to 
explain the changes and your thinking, that would be great. You don’t need to go into
great detail - it could be as simple as cropping or as complicated as a multi-layer
Photoshop image. We’ll see how the night goes and if there’s any time left, we can 
have a general chat about photography, where it’s going and how you feel this year's
Club programme is panning out.

Shaun Little is one of the Club's most experienced and accomplished
photographers. He is also a Photoshop expert. 
Several members have already made requests about using “Brushes”,
“Gradients” etc. Shaun is also going to show how to correct verticals,
cloning, bringing out shadows and highlights, monochrome, selective
colourisation etc. 
Shaun says “Generally it’s pretty simple stuff that people can take in
on the night (and remember!), but it can be more complex if people wish
but that generally takes longer! I’m open to suggestions so we can make
it a bit of an interactive evening.”
Shaun has asked that if anyone has any particular requests, can they
please let Martyn or Mike know in advance so Shaun can prepare
something beforehand (if possible). Also, if anyone has a photo that
they are particularly stuck on and need some help processing it, please
bring it along on the night on a memory stick.

Competition 'E': 'Night-time' + Open

The Club Committee has scheduled a special meeting to discuss how the ever 
increasing restrictions resulting from Covid-19 are likely to affect 
the Club activities.

The meeting will consider what we are going to do about:

•	Monday Meetings – do we continue; how many members will come?

•	External speakers and judges – will they still come?

•	Annual competition – we could still get it judged (maybe make it 
	all DPIs) but not hold the meeting, results shown on internet?

•	AGM – do we want to postpone?  Not sure how we do this. Could make 
	the AGM the first meeting of next season?

•	Awards Evening – booking at Greyhound

•	Exhibition – scheduled for May. Do we cancel?

The set subject for this year's DPI President's Competition is 'Water in 
the Cotswolds'. Note: 'the Cotswolds' has been clarified by our 
Competition Secretary as "the Cotswolds AONB or an area associated with 
the Cotswolds (which would cover Cirencester, the Water Park, and
Malmesbury etc)". In other words, we are taking a broad definition of 
the Cotswolds.

Tony Worobiec FRPS will give a presentation based on his new book - 
"The Water's Edge". 

Tony and Eva Worobiec explore the landscape at "The Water's Edge" in a 
variety of locations in the UK and abroad, explaining how to make the 
best of the inherent photographic opportunities. From the rocky shoreline 
to beach huts and piers this paperback is full of top quality imagery from 
two of the UK's most renowned photographers. The accompanying text provides 
advice, tips and inspiration for both the novice and the experienced 
photographer alike.

Author of 17 books, Tony Worobiec studied fine art at The University of 
Newcastle upon Tyne and spent 18 years as head of a large design faculty 
in Dorset. He has won awards for photography in the UK and internationally, 
and has had work exhibited in London’s Barbican Gallery, Bradford’s National 
Museum of Photography, The Menier Gallery London and The Fox Talbot Museum 
Lacock. He is a founder member of the prestigious Arena Group of Photographers. 
Dozens of his photographs have been used for book or album covers. 

His work has appeared in more than a 100 photographic magazines both here in 
the UK and in America. He has been invited to write extended articles for well 
respected photographic magazines such as Black & White Photography, Practical 
Photography, Total Digital Photography, Digital Photo, Digital Camera, Photo 
Plus and Photo Techniques USA. Several of his articles have also been published 
in the German magazine, Canon Foto.

Angela Rendell (mother of Kate who gave us an excellent drone 
photography presentation in January) will be giving a talk on
monochrome photography. Angela is  a Member of Cheltenham 
Camera Club, Cotswold Monochrome Club, and Tewkesbury YMCA
Movie Makers. 
Angela is also a  Newly Qualified Judge of Photography at PAGB
(Photographic Alliance of Great Britain).

Club photographer Paul Jones illustrates a recent trip to one of the
world's remotest places with images of wildlife, icebergs, tonal
landscapes and sheer vastness beyond our everyday understanding.

Knockout Print Night. It's up to you to pick the winner in tonight's
no-holds barred competition. It's one against one as we whittle down the prints to find
the overall 2020 champion!

Knockout Print Competition - 2020 Rules

This will be our Seventh Knockout Print Competition.  A “fun” evening and an 
opportunity for all members to enter their prints without any critical judge’s 
comments.
Instead of an external judge, prints are judged by club members.  Prints will be 
presented in pairs to members in turn.  All the members then have to decide by a 
show of hands which one they like best.  The losing print is then discarded.  
A tie will be decided by the toss of a coin.
A bye may be randomly given to ensure that the next round has an even number of 
prints.
The process continues until all prints have been presented.
The process then repeats with the remaining prints until 3 prints remain.
The remaining prints are displayed to allow all members to vote for 1st, 2nd & 
3rd places.

Minimal Rules:
All prints should be members own work.
Prints can be Black & White or Colour
There is no restriction on the age of photographs
Prints awarded 1st, 2nd, 3rd, HC or C in monthly competitions are not eligible.
Prints awarded 1st, 2nd or 3rd in previous knockout print competitions are not 
eligible.
Prints should be 7” x 5” or larger.
As many as possible per member please up to a maximum of 10 prints.
Prints can be mounted or unmounted.  Mounting will not be considered and prints 
mounted on plain card are acceptable.
Membership number should be used to identify print.
Titles are not required.
A Trophy will be awarded at the Awards Evening for the winner & Certificates for 
1st Place, 2nd & 3rd Place.

About Phil Savoie:
"I’m a biologist, photographer and filmmaker.   I joined the BBC Natural
History Unit in 1994 as a producer/director/cameraman.  For a photography
obsessed field biologist being able to travel the globe shooting animal
behaviour in locations I’d only dreamed of was magic ~ quite simply it
just doesn’t get better.  Privileged to work on a range of projects from
global blockbusters to award winning self-authored films.  My work can be
seen across BBC output including Planet Earth, Life of Mammals, Deep Jungle,
Congo, Wild Africa, Life in the Undergrowth and the Natural World series.
Honoured with international awards, EMMY and BAFTA noms & nods including

About Leigh Woolford:

"I’ve been taking photographs for as long as I can remember, I was given my first 
camera aged 11. My more serious intrerest started by photographing Formula 1 racing 
in the 1980, although I wasn't too interested in other types of photography until I 
joined Gwynfa camera club later in the decade.

With a lot of practice and perseverance I've managed to work out which buttons to 
press and (sometimes) where to point it. In more recent years I've been fortunate 
to obtain a few photography distinctions (AWPF, EFIAP, DPAGB & BPE3). In 2018 I was 
chuffed to be awarded an honorary Fellowship of the Welsh Photographic Federation 
for services to Welsh club photography.

I’ll have a go at photographing anything but landscapes have become my passion. In 
recent years I’ve been lucky enough to visit many locations particularly Iceland:
I've made eight trips and have fallen in love with that mad, cold, hot, bonkers, 
beautiful, ugly island!

Currently I use a couple of Canon DSLR camera (one full frame, the other crop frame) 
and some lenses, two of which are white. (Everyone knows that white lenses make you 
a better photographer). Usually the one on the camera isn't the one I need. I also 
have some nifty Lee filters that cost more than some of my cameras but are pure 
quality. My legs are provided by Manfrotto.

Away from photography my interests include Jaguars (I'm mad enough to have two), 
Rugby Union, Formula One and really bad disaster movies. I'm still gutted that Wales 
lost in the semi-finals of the 2011 and 2019 Rugby World Cup and equally devastated 
that the drunk crop-dusting pilot got killed in ‘Independence Day’."

About Nick Jenkins:

"I have been a keen landscape and outdoor photographer for the last 15 years 
or so. My interest stemmed from my complete inability to capture through a 
viewfinder the sense of awe I felt when out walking in the British hills. 
It was then that I was determined to do something about this inability and 
set about teaching myself how to capture landscapes that meant something to 
me when I got home. After putting a portfolio together of my best British 
landscape images, I achieved my Associateship of the Royal Photographic 
Society, followed by Associateship of the Welsh Photographic Federation.
In 2001 I left corporate life behind and in 2002 set up ‘Freespirit Images’, 
the business I now run to market and promote my photographic images. This 
ranges from tutoring and advice on my courses and workshops to producing 
images for magazines, greetings cards and calendars, throughout the UK.  
I supply several photographic agencies with travel and general stock 
photography. I also give talks and presentations to clubs and societies 
all round the country, including camera clubs and professional organisations.
Initially much of my time was spent photographing the great outdoors for 
clients such as AA Publications, CADW, Cardiff City Council, Isle of Man 
Tourism, Newport City Council and the Brecon Beacons National Park.  More 
recently I have been shooting for commercial clients; for their Annual Reports, 
websites and business flyers. This is a different branch of photography for me, 
but one that is so enjoyable and I am attracting new clients all the time."

About Matt Emmett:

"Through his artistic photography of abandoned places, Matt Emmett documents 
the frail beauty of once lived in spaces. Forgotten Heritage is his incredible 
photographic archive, which spans over 5 years of seeking out and photographing 
places that have been forgotten in time. Thanks to Emmett, that which is abandoned 
becomes art.

The adventurous photographer, who was named “Arcaid Architectural Photographer of 
the Year” in 2016, has seen his work featured in Architectural Digest, among other 
publications. Traveling throughout Europe to find deserted locations, his photography 
examines the spirit of each architectural ghost in detail."

A competition judge will give us an in-depth view of judging using
Club members' own prints or DPIs as examples. Bring along your images
for an interactive, informal, and constructive critique of your
photography.
